Sterling LPHA Liquid Ring Vacuum Pump This pump compresses gas by a rotating impeller in a housing. Liquid is fed into the housing and the centrifugal force created by the rotating impellers forms a liquid ring. The ring creates a series of seals in the space between the impeller vanes, which form compression chambers. When gas is drawn into the housing, it is trapped in the chambers where the reduction in volume compresses the gas.
